You Can't miss This.

In the true spirit of Project M and a 40 page annual report Im working on for Graphic design class I've been googling grid structures and TOC designs. Looking for something other than whats expected I'm going for something more artisitc than simply page contents and number.

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/07/07/table-of-contents-creative-and-beautiful-examples/

These are some beautiful and creative examples of TOC, an element of a publication that usually is over looked by the non designers. This is one of my favorites. A simple design bu brilliant as a TOC that would make anyone look twice.

This one is a Pocket Manual of Chinese Medicine. SO beautiful.

Check out the website for more inspiring TOCs.

  1. I LOVEEEEEEE both of those examples. And, you've just reminded me that I have such a long way to go in terms of understanding what it means to be truly innovative. Thanks for posting!

PS. If you find another apple the size of my head, I want a phone call.

  2. Table of contents have always aggravated me but are so essential. These are great examples of how to be more creative and free with the design. Good luck on your annual report!

  3. That TOC is so great! I agree with Kathryn in that it can be so frustrating trying to design a TOC in an effective and creative way. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. I really love the birds TOC. I actually like designing with grids, but this is a good example of how to use one as a guide, but not a law.
